Sicap’s Device Management Centre for the Connected World

What is DMC?

Sicap’s world-leading Device Management Center (DMC) combines fully automatic detection, device configuration, and management functionalities including always up-to-date device characteristics database and device base analytics and segmentation tools.

Sicap’s DMC automatically detects new mobile devices on telecom operators’ networks and configures them with the correct network settings in real-time. Additionally, DMC provides white-labeled web tools and mobile applications for end-users for device self-configuration. Call center agents are provided a web tool through which they can quickly and efficiently remote-configure end-users devices.

What is Device Management, and how important is it?

Device Management often consists of types of operations remotely conducted on connected devices in a protected environment. Examples of these operations include configuration, diagnostics, firmware updates, and provisioning. This scalable and flexible tool empowers operators to work with many devices and services to enhance the user experience and drive business growth.

  1. Configuration often refers to activation and settings policies that are specific to telecommunications standards, such as Wi-Fi and mobile network activation.
  1. Diagnostics is a tool that manages device information, events, and logs, that can detect any troubleshooting by managing and configuring all devices from one location.
  1. Firmware updates enable the users to explore new features that have been added to their device, resulting in an advanced user experience while interacting with the device.
  1. Provisioning is the process of setting up a device that conforms to policies set by mobile operators.

Sicap’s state-of-the-art Device Management Center (DMC) is trusted by more than 40 Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), and Mobile Virtual Network Enablers (MVNEs) across the world. Sicap DMC combines fully automatic device detection, device configuration, and management functionalities including an up-to-date device characteristics database and a drag-and-drop device base real-time analytics tool.

Device Management is becoming the main element for a well-functioning connected ecosystem made up of devices and smart services. Within Sicap, we explore pioneering solutions to handle any issues with ease and offer a straightforward Device Management Centre that ensures the perfect functionality of our subscribers’ devices and services in their everyday lives whilst, of course, protecting their privacy.

What are the benefits of Sicap’s Device Management solution?

Speed-up Revenue Up Take – Mobile devices are automatically configured for your network enabling immediate service consumption.

Improve Customer Experience – Provide a seamless welcome experience for new subscribers through a first time-right device setup.

Increase Call-Center Efficiency – Reduce call resolution time, speed-up care experience, and save operational costs through remote troubleshooting and configuration tools.

Up-to-date device base knowledge – Make better business decisions and sharpen your marketing with a full and up-to-date understanding of the device base including their capabilities in your network.

The Future of Device Management

Device Management solutions were originally designed solely for setting up mobile handsets with the correct network parameters, such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Short Message Service Center (SMSC) and MMSC address, and the Access Point Name (APN) settings.

As technology is continuing to develop, Device Management and devices connected to the internet are more present in our everyday lives. For example, the telecommunications industry relies on Device Management for implementing security policies, monitoring, and managing end-user mobile devices. This is not only on smartphones but can extend to tablets, and smartwatches.

Device management systems have been evolving technically and built-up monumental device databases including detection identifying data and all other data from the device characteristics. The role of device management solutions has expanded and partly diverted from its original state. Today the future of device management solutions will continue to adapt and will be used for a much wider range of use cases.

The Future of Device Management

MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) APN Setup – APN setup remains a problem for many MVNOs as it is still one of the major tech problems. To override MNO APN settings on devices and to general roaming cases correctly MVNOs need accurate device detection capabilities and automated device configuration in order to secure revenue intake and a great customer welcome experience.

Device configuration is key for VoLTE and VoWiFi take-off – VoLTE and VoWiFi services require an extensive set of settings on each mobile handset. So far VoLTE and VoWiFi are in limited use with only a handful of supporting devices, resulting in mobile operators managing service launches manually. However, mass-market VoLTE and VoWiFi take-off will require a centrally managed, over-the-air device setup.

Device analytics for better business efficiency – When an automatic device detection solution tracks codes from MSISDN, IMSI, and IMEI from a network for device configuration purposes, it collects valuable device characteristics data, enabling service providers to support business decision making, marketing, and promotion, and customer-care service optimization.

Conclusion

One of the most common problems that telecom companies face is how quickly new services are implemented. At Sicap, we aim for a new generation of Device Management platforms, whilst keeping our customers, users, and devices at utmost importance, all the while ensuring security and privacy.
